Private Photography Instruction & Guiding

Learn the ins and outs of night sky photography. I’ll teach everything from setting up your camera to capturing amazing images of the night sky.

What You’ll Learn? 

We’ll work together to select topics that interest you the most. The most common and popular topics are:

  • Milky Way Photography: Planning for optimal viewing and photographing of the Milky Way core.

  • Star Trails – Learn to capture a star trail image using multiple, stacked frames.

  • Meteor Showers – Learn to plan and shoot the next meteor shower.

  • Camera exposure settings for optimal night sky images.

  • Focusing at night.

  • Composition and foreground objects. How to integrate them into your night skies photoshoot for interesting composition.

  • Planning – Learn to use PhotoPills to plan and determine the best location, time of year, moon phases, for epic photos – make sense of all the variables to plan a successful shoot!

  • Location scouting and finding dark skies.

  • How to edit your night sky photos to make them stand out.

What Should I Bring to a Private Astrophotography Workshop?

  • A Mirrorless or DSLR camera that can perform in Manual (M) mode.

  • Tripod

  • At least 2 batteries for your camera and a charger

  • A wide angle lens of at least 24mm with an aperture of f/2.8 or faster is recommended but not required.

  • Memory cards totaling at least 64 gigabytes 

  • Camera bag that can be easily carried

  • An intervalometer or remote control shutter release

  • Headlamp

  • Snacks 

  • Folding chair

WHEN WE GO

Depending on the time of year, we will typically meet anywhere between 4pm and 6pm and drive towards the best location that allows for night photography. Astro workshops are only offered from May to October to take advantage of the Milky Way rising early in the night.

PRICING

Starting at $149 for one person.
$55 for each additional photographer (limit of 4).

If you have a group larger than 4, inquire about our small group workshop rates.

The astrophotography workshops entails around four hours of astrophotography instruction and photo guiding in Puerto Rico by a professional photographer and instructor.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Astrophotography Workshops need to be booked a minimum of 3 days in advance. You will see in our calendar that not all dates will be available as we need to take into consideration the phase of the moon. You can cancel for no charge within 24 hours of making your booking (provided your booking is not within one week of your workshop).

Weather plays a very key role in nighttime photography, but is unpredictable. The weather may compromise our photography shooting conditions, but lessons will continue if the conditions permit. If weather does cancel our private workshop, Puerto Rico Photo Adventures and Client will work together to come up with a new date and time.

I like to shoot on clear nights, but light cloud cover can add a very interesting effect in your images. If the forecast calls for rain we will have to reschedule or relocate. Even if there is partial cloud cover, I promise that I will do my best so that you will still take home some great shots and the knowledge on how to greatly capture the night sky on any given night.
